We Invite You to Come Stay and Play with Us…
Clay County hosts numerous festivals and events throughout the year. In addition to the wide range of events in the Great Outdoors here, there’s a lot to keep you busy. Obviously, there’s always Dale Hollow Lake.
But the things to do don’t stop there. You can stroll downtown to the antique and novelty shoppes. Take the Historic Driving Tour to many sites of the past, including the Civil War Trail. Stop by the Clay County Museum for more interesting facts, including Cordell Hull’s First Law Office.
Community clubs and leaders, and volunteers and the Chamber of Commerce have teamed up to bring a wide variety of festivals and events to Celina and Clay County.
After a long absence, the Clay County Fair was revived with great success. The fairground and recreational complex is located just a few hundred yards from downtown on the west side of the Cumberland River. The fairground complex was built through a combined effort (both labor and funding) of the local Lions Club, volunteers and local government. The Clay County Fair is the first one held each year in the Upper Cumberland area.
Homecoming Days features a wide variety of events and vendors from crafts to food, and some fundraising/entertainment events you may not see anywhere else. The festival is held at the end of July/first of August. Homecoming Days serves as a fundraiser for the Clay County History Museum.
The Fall Festival and Chili Cook-off, held the second Saturday in October, is attracting a wider range of entrants in the chili cook-off each year. This event helps provide local funding for the Senior Citizen Center, located at the Government Complex in Celina.
A hub of activity
The Clay County Courthouse is the second-oldest working courthouse in the state, and hosts many events throughout the year. In addition to being the hub of festivals and celebrations, the almost 150-year-old structure serves other functions. Multiple annual Christmas holiday events, including musical entertainment and a play, are held there. A weekly radio broadcast on local station WVFB (101.5 FM) takes place there, using a talk format. Newsmakers are interviewed each week in order to keep listeners informed as to what’s going on in Clay County.
Other events held in Celina and the surrounding area throughout the year include tractor pulls, musical events, fishing tournaments, and car “cruise-ins,” among others.
The Chamber also offers a self-guided driving tour of the county.
